Job Description:
  • Take the lead on our efforts for continuous integration and help us develop a proper process coupled with technology
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server ”under the hood”
  • Strong expertise in coding/reviewing/enhancing TSQL including enhancements from SQL 2012
  • Monitor queries and indexes in production and suggest optimizations
  • Make suggestions and standards for proper filegroup usage and growth
  • Partner with the SAN team for data warehouse needs (LUN allocations, IOPS, spacing requirements and growth projections).
  • Work closely with the data warehouse architects and the data acquisition developers to ensure optimal data base and data extraction/loading process design for each implementation.
  • Document data movement and data loading processes & physical hardware architecture.
  • Maintenance of the data warehouse, including maintenance of the
persistence layer, EDW layer, operational data store, data mart,
metadata management, etc., and oversight of hardware/software configuration.
  • Continually ensures completeness and compatibility of the
technical infrastructure and DW implementation to support system performance,
availability and architecture requirements.
  • Maintaining CDC and replication from source systems for ODS consumption.
  • Install/configure SQL Server environments on physical, VMs and Azure.
  • Understand and are able to make recommendations for hardware to support a DW environment in SQL Server.
  • Keep up with emerging trends/technologies in the Microsoft BI landscape (i.e. SQL Server 2014, MS BI Stack, VS, etc.)
  • Monitors and maintains data quality including data validation,
cleansing/scrubbing, etc.
  • Work with development team towards automation for continuous validation of data quality and Master Data Management.
  • Maintain alerting and triage system for data quality failures, long running queries during ETL batch loads and/or end user queries.
  • At least a basic understanding of data modeling, design and architecture principles and techniques across master data, transaction data and
derived/analytic data.
  • Management and maintenance of databases
  • Manage backups.
  • Test backups periodically to ensure recoverability.
  • Run Database Consistency Checks.
  • Review logs for errors periodically.
  • Update databases as needed for new development.
  • Assist development team with SQL performance
  • Work with development team to determine appropriate access permissions for groups of users.
  • Monitoring and optimization of databases
  • Use Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler, and 3rd party tools to gather performance data on server and database levels.
  • Tune indexes, queries, table structure, partition strategies and object placement for optimal performance
Other Functions:
  • Strong technical expertise in data storage/management
technologies for DW solution
  • On-call troubleshooting for SQL Server service outages
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in IT preferred; Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
  • Six (6) years’ experience as an enterprise data warehouse DBA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to carry on successful interactions with both engineering and business teams.
