Job Description:

The Design/Test Engineer: Network Services for the newly formed Cloud Services Group will be an action-oriented, disruptive, and innovative driving force, responsible for designing the capabilities, features and functions of cloud computing infrastructure offerings for hosted services and SaaS products across the company. This particular position will focus on load balancer and firewall space. This individual will influence and lead cross functional teams to complete projects and major initiatives using judgment and growing experience. The Design Engineer will follow a collaborative process with architects understand the solution architecture and then fully articulate the design of the platform. This person will identify, deliver, and document the required design artifacts to make the new solution capabilities generally available, including design specifications, test plans/results and training material. After the design phase, the engineer will actively continue monitoring and consulting throughout the execution phases, including implementation and operations, feeding implementation and operational challenges back into design opportunities. 

The ideal candidate has a broad technical understanding of cloud infrastructure services in general, but also possesses significant additional depth in at least one discipline. This particular position will focus on networking with data center expertise. 

Typically requires an engineering degree (BS with additional experience highly desired) , and at least five to seven years of increasing responsibility for designing and lab testing of Cloud Solutions including end to end security frameworks, network security services, global and local load balancing, server consolidation, storage consolidation, disaster recovery, backups, networking, and security. Knowledge and experience on holistic data center virtualization (spanning compute, storage, security and networking) is highly desirable. 

Technical Expertise:
  • Citrix load balancer product line: specifically VPX, Citrix Netscaler (physical and virtual appliances)
  • Networking: OSI Layer 2 (Spanning tree, vPC, EtherChannel, VLAN, etc), Layer 3 switching /routing (OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, IPv4/6), DNS/DHCP, network virtualization (N1kv, VRF), higher layer protocols as they interact with security and load balancing: TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, real-time traffic (voice/video), NFS, database access protocols
  • Expertise in Virtualized Infrastructure, Hypervisors (ideally Openstack), virtual applicances
  • Experience with Cisco’s Data Center Product Line: ACE, GSS, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA)
  • In depth in Load Balancing and Content Switching / Load Balancing related concepts such as one-arm mode, NAT, global load balancing, (OSI Layer 4-7 Switching, Load balancers), Caching and Content Delivery
  • In depth knowledge of Network/Infrastructure Security technologies (IPSEC, SSL/VPN tunneling, Firewall access control, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, administrative access control) and compliance (PCI, SOx, HIPAA)
  • Experience in integrating Citrix LBs with Openstack is highly desirable
  • Experience in testing enterprise scale design environment. Experience in test plan creation, execution and results reporting.
Non-Technical Requirements:
  • Great written and verbal communications skills: ability to communicate technology strategy and architecture approach to engineers, senior management, and Cisco customers. Core expertise to include design concepts, IT analysis/analytical thinking, enterprise perspective and process knowledge.
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills at technical level.
Analytical reasoning and creative problem solving skills. 
  • Solid understanding of the end-to-end IT process, including architecture, design & engineering, implementation, and operations; prior architecture, design, implementations and operational responsibilities are highly desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to work with teams, ability to build relationships using an open and respectful communication and collaboration style.
  • Technology leadership skills to include coaching/mentoring/teaching, critical thinking/judgment, facilitation and leading change.
  • Cisco best-practice skills to include building relationships, cultural sensitivity, goal alignment, learning agility, and virtual/remote training.
