Interview Process :Phone, then Skype for non-local candidates
This position will be a member of the transportation services application development and support organization. Primary duties will be initially to work under the guidance of subject matter experts in a production support role. This will involve learning and executing trouble-shooting tools and processes to deal with application issues that arise during the day. In addition, the candidate will start off doing small to medium software development tasks from specs or guidance written by application leads. This role will be expected to also perform application analysis tasks and support both design and development tasks for enhancements and big fixes. Eventually, this role will also be part of an on-call rotation with the rest of their team.
Skills and experience:
5-7 years’ experience as a software developer with COBOL, SQL, and DB2 is required. JCL and CICS experience would be a plus.
Previous experience with analyzing, designing, writing, and debugging computer software is required.
Experience working on applications and software programs to determine solutions to production issues and the changes need to accomplish the project objectives.
Experience with application development in a Linux. DB2/LUW and microfocus COBOL environment would be a plus.
Experience previously working in a role doing maintenance and application production support and troubleshooting is a plus.
3-5 years of prior railroad industry experience in an technology role is preferred
Typical job duties:
Provides estimates and helps set deliverable deadlines and manages to them.
Responds to incident tickets directly or as assigned as part of a production support responsibility.
Follows a repeatable methodology in the development, testing and assisting on installation of application software and adheres to quality standards.
Provides timely and accurate status reports, including time reporting and adherence to level of effort (LOE) estimations, to IT management on the status of existing projects and outstanding project requests.
Develops and executes accurate and concise unit and integration test scripts.
Develops and/or modifies computer programs/systems at all levels.
Assigned primary or back-up holiday and weekend on-call support on a rotational basis.
May assist with regression testing.
Degree Program of Study
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university Information Systems or computer science or equivalent work experience.
